Creative projects like this are very important for young people. It gives them creative freedom, and the chance to explore and ignite their imagination.
At the start of the process, I asked the young group to come up with ideas for the mural. This included the tree and a list of inspiring and positive words to paint inside the leaves.
The group ranged in ages from 7 – 11 and did an absolutely brilliant job working large scale, and also tackling a heavily textured surface – it took a lot of patience (and paint!) to cover the bobbly and porous wall. My niece Poppy also helped out as part of her work placement.

I have been working in the creative sector since studying graphic design and illustration at LJMU. I started out painting murals and attending graffiti events – working primarily with spray paint at that time. I would then progress to painting large scale corporate murals once I graduated and began a placement at Nonconform – where I still work today. In my university days, I was often told by tutors that ‘you would never work in an agency’
Hilariously I hated computers whilst at uni, and preferred making everthing from scratch. Even now I try to be as hands on as possible, but obviously using a computer is inevitable with the job I do.
Prep drawings and artwork for upcoming exhibition ‘Iconic Women’ @dotartliverpool . I’ve created a set of large scale prints, paying homage to some of my favourite images of female musicians during their break through years. The chosen artists are particularly renowned for their unapologetic attitude and pioneering music. More on this soon. Opens on #valentinesday
